Upper Hutt - 22 & 23 Feb - Your choices, Your life

In February, Your choices, Your life, will be making a return to educate
young driving offenders in Upper Hutt about how their driving behaviour
impacts people's lives, including their own.



Upper Hutt City Council in partnership with Orongomai Marae will be
delivering the programme over two days. This year, the initiative will take
place over one day and cater to two different target groups.



Wednesday 22 February, will be catered to Community Probation referrals
only. This day will take the participants' through a journey of
self-discovery as they learn about the consequences of repeat offending
behind a wheel, injury and death on the road and the justice system. The
hard hitting content will prompt thoughts of their own actions and they'll
have the chance to meet a serious car crash victim to hear of the tragedy
and consequence first hand. A Wellington artist will be present to lead the
participants' through a reflective workshop to put forming thoughts onto
canvas.



Thursday 23 February, is catered to rangatahi. Our young people in Upper
Hutt who have displayed risky driving behaviour and have received a fine for
their driving. Referrals can be made by anyone who recognises that this may
be a beneficial learning experience. The day will take the participants
through valuable and educational lessons learnt by others with interactive
elements and multiple presenters. It aims to prompt thoughts on driving
behaviour and how bad decisions can turn deadly at the worst. Referrals can

All participants are awarded with a certificate to recognise their
attendance and participation in which their family and whanau are invited to
attend and enjoy over dinner.
